3 Things I Learned Doing A Digital Writing Challenge 3 Times

On April 8, I started the digital writing course Ship 30 for 30 for the third time. The aim is to write and publish about up to three topics of your choice every day for a month.

It’s the only course I took three times. Each time I had a different focus and approach, and each time I got different things out of it:

#1

Focus: Learn styles and formats for effective digital writing.

Approach: I wrote about anything that came to mind. Missed a couple of days of writing.

Outcome: Struggled to create ideas from scratch every day but got over the discomfort of becoming more visible online.

#2

Focus: Create a niche

Approach: I had a clear idea what my content should be about: 1) Finishing the PhD without stressing too much, 2) personal branding for early career researchers and 3) entrepreneurship. Turns out, coming up with ideas is way easier!

Outcome: I wrote for more than 60 days without break and found my niche: Help female Science PhDs to finish the PhD with ease and develop a personal brand so they can land their dream job.

#3

Focus: Continue writing with a newborn baby.

Approach: Keep up my writing habit without adjustments. I failed. Surprise.

Outcome: Found new ways of gathering and creating content, and of organizing my time.

#4

Next cohort I will focus on being more active in the Ship30 community. Many fellow shippers experienced the exchange with cohort-buddies as the most valuable part of the challenge and I can’t wait to engage!

The next cohort starts in July. If you want to start a digital writing habit, too you can use this referral link to get a 100$ discount.
